DIY: Valentine’s Day Heart Garland
Happy Valentine’s Day to everyone! We know it is a special day and to make the day even more special, we have a fun DIY Valentine’s day project to share with you — heart garland. Do you remember this from our Inspiration 101 last week?
We saw it over on Martha Stewart and thought we must try it. It is a pretty easy project that we are thinking would look great behind a dessert bar, strung across the ceiling, wrapped around glasses or jars. Oolala, so many fabulous ideas! Think of all the fun shapes you could make it out of, but in honor of Valentine’s Day, we tried out the hearts!
1. Find a variety of red, orange, pink, and purple crayons. Choose colors depending on your wedding theme. To make about 25 hearts you’ll need about 4 crayons.
2. Unwrap all the crayons. This was the longest part of the whole project, but we suggest, find a good TV show and get to unwrapping!
3. Sharpen all the crayons with a pencil sharpener. Sharpen until you can’t do it anymore and save the shavings.
4. Pull out two pieces of wax paper. Sprinkle the crayon shavings over the waxed paper. Do not sprinkle too much or it will get really sticky. We over did it a bit the first time. Make sure to put a towel (old that can be ruined) under the bottom waxed paper on the ironing board. Use two waxed sheets on top. Whoops, we ruined our ironing cover and got crayon all over the iron. Just be aware and be careful!
5. Iron the two sheets of waxed paper together. Then using a heart template (we made our own), cut hearts out of the waxed paper. You can do all sorts of sizes. We just stuck to one size.
6. With your sewing machine, sew the hearts together to create a string of hearts.
7. Hang up somewhere in your house or even better use them at your upcoming wedding!
