Are you planning a wedding in Colorado and still looking for the perfect venue and date? Colorado’s four distinct seasons each offer stunning backdrops and unique experiences, but they also come with their own set of pros and cons. Keep reading to understand what to expect in fall, winter, spring, and summer weddings and to help you decide on the perfect time to say “I do” in the Centennial State.

Breakdown of Colorado Wedding Seasons

Colorado Fall

Out of all the Colorado wedding seasons, fall is the most popular. September and October are some of the busiest wedding months in Colorado! This is when temperatures will start to lower, especially at night. Guests will appreciate the cooler temperatures and will feel more comfortable during the ceremony, if your ceremony is outside. Don’t be surprised if Colorado’s weather forecast is predicting an early snow fall though!

Trees will change color making the backdrop absolutely stunning and magical whether you are getting married in the mountains or in the city. Because this is THE time to get married in the Colorado mountains, dates will be booked up faster than some of the other months. Days are getting shorter in the fall so keep in mind that your timeline will need to start earlier if you want to catch the sun for photos and if you are having an outdoor ceremony.

Colorado Winter

What’s nice about Colorado winters is that the sun will be out for most of the season. You can plan to have an outdoor ceremony, but know that we could get a snowstorm or have below freezing temperatures and you’ll need to go to your plan b. Higher elevation wedding venues will be cooler compared to closer to the city. You’ll need to consider logistics for guests traveling to Colorado. Guests traveling from out of state might have harsher winters which can cause delays in travel. Winter is an off-peak season for weddings which means there are more dates and locations available than during peak-wedding season.

Pros

  • Snowy peaks
  • Holiday spirit
  • Cozy atmosphere
  • Potential off-peak pricing

Cons

  • Shorter days
  • Unpredictable weather
  • Limited outdoor options
  • Holiday competition

Colorado Spring

Some mountain wedding venues will still have snow, but other venues for the most part will be snowless and have green grass and blooming florals. We could get another last minute snow fall during the spring or it could rain. Regardless, you’ll need a weather backup plan like the other Colorado wedding seasons. If venues are open seasonally, most likely these venues are still closed for the year.

Pros

  • Florals blooming
  • Milder weather
  • More availability

Cons

  • Unpredictable rain or later snow
  • Allergies
  • Mud season

Colorado Summer

Summer is another popular Colorado wedding season. Summer days are longer and hotter, but come with rain and afternoon storms. Like fall, there won’t be as much availability due to higher demand and popularity. Summer is a busy travel season so either expect people to not be able to addend because of a pre-booked vacation or people will make a vacation out of your wedding weekend. Shade and mountain weddings will be your best friend for you and your guests on your wedding day to keep guests cool with the hot temperatures.
